Kinky Boots, get it? For long-running Broadway musical, then film
As I never tire of saying, the Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Garden is probably my and Dear Husband's favorite place in Pittsburgh. So when I had a surprise vacation day, he asked to visit their Billy Porter-themed exhibit. Dahling, it did not disappoint!
"You are an Icon"
These are outfits made by local college students.
This Lady Rainbow Liberty was one of our favorites; you can't see it this far away, but the rainbow is made of many different strips of different fabrics, quilted together.
They did a good job of finding flowers of different bright colors.
These adorable woodland creatures and insects were made by elementary and middle school students, and I loved every one of them, especially the winged frog. I assume it references some video game or other.
The current rain forest theme is Hawai'i, which had been changed since the last time we were there, so we had to read all the signage about the plants and the Polynesian explorers, and watch the videos about making poi and pounding fabric out of plant fibers.
The waterfall was particularly spectacular today.
In the South Conservatory were these stunning outfits made out of botanical materials.
In the Serpentine Room, more outfits and a selfie station that we skipped because it was relatively crowded given that there weren't as many people as we thought there would be. The one on the right is a hydroponic system with lettuces growing as the skirt and goldfish (goldfish!) swimming in the tank that make up her trunk and arms. Maybe that one was my favorite.
Orchid Room! We love the little alien men in the central pond.
Final look in the Palm Court.
Good-bye for now, sun-worshipping boy!
